Emma's Torch Cafe is looking for a passionate and dedicated part-time Barista with weekend availability to join our team in Carroll Gardens. Emma's Torch is a non-profit social enterprise providing refugees with culinary training, ESL classes, and interview preparation. In this role, you will prepare high-quality beverages, deliver warm hospitality, and help mentor students in our cafe.

Responsibilities

• Make and serve coffee and tea beverages adhering to recipes and presentations
• Greet guests warmly and create an inviting atmosphere
• Receive and process payments using cash and credit cards
• Maintain a clean and sanitized workstation in compliance with health and safety regulations
• Check brewing equipment operations and report any maintenance needs
• Train students on working in the cafe and communicate student progress with the Cafe Manager
• Maintain regular, consistent attendance and contribute to a positive, supportive team environment

Requirements

• Previous work experience as a Barista with hands-on espresso and brewing equipment experience
• Passion for the food and beverage industry and alignment with our mission
• Commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive environment for guests and colleagues
• Knowledge of sanitation regulations; NYS Food Handler's certificate is a plus
• Excellent communication skills and ability to gauge customer preferences
• Basic math skills
• Part-time availability, including mandatory weekend availability
• High school diploma or equivalent; relevant training or multilingual skills a plus
